The new social media platform 'Threads' is all over the place. Presented as an alternative to Elon Musk’s rubbled Twitter, you might be curious how Threads is different and what fresh social media experiences it has to offer.
Well, you've landed on the right blog!
Today, we'll uncover what exactly Threads is, its features, and how you can make the best out of this new app!
What is Threads?
Threads is a new text-based social media platform from Meta, which can be accessed via Instagram. Primarily, it allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and family in a more organised way. It's like a digital scrapbook, where you can create different "threads" for different topics or events.
For example, you can create a thread for your vacation, your child's first year of school, or your latest home renovation project. Just add your photos and insights and it's good to go!
Friends and family who follow you will be able to see your thread in their News Feed, and can tap to view all of the photos and videos you've added. They can also add their comments and reactions.
Why more people are Threading away
After a $44-billion deal that led Elon Musk to take over Twitter in October 2022, things started to quickly fall apart for the platform. From the messy blue verified badge to numerous user privacy issues, hate speech, targeted ads, and inaction by executives, users needed a less problematic app with the same features.
And that’s where Meta's Threads came to the rescue.
After its July 6th launch, it’s safe to say that users were craving a fresh start, as 100 million active users signed up within the first 5 days. One advantage it has over Twitter is that your friends and followers on Instagram can easily find and follow you on Threads since the two apps are interconnected.
What can you do in Threads?
While the app is still brand new, Threads is no different than other social media platforms, most notable its parent app, Instagram.
You can share updates either in plain text or with media like images, videos, and GIFs. Your followers and friends can react and comment on your threads, and you can reciprocate on their updates. You can also reshare posts much like Twitter’s 'retweet' function.
And if you're more of a storyteller, you won’t be limited by a character counter on Threads allowing you to post updates that are up to 500 words long. That's 280-characters more than Twitter has at the moment. (Twitter Blue, the paid option, has a 10,000-character limit).
If you're a brand looking to expand in a new community, the perfect opportunity is waiting for you here at Threads! Since most industries haven’t caught on yet, you may be among the first in your niche and present yourself as an authority on a platform with a new audience.
How can I get Threads?
Threads is readily available for download on both iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
If you have an Instagram account, it's easier to migrate to Threads, as they are already linked. Just click on your username on the bottom section of the Threads welcome screen and you're in!
Upon logging in, you'll be inputting your personal information and choosing your account’s privacy options. You can conveniently import your followers from Instagram and instantly follow them on Threads. And if they are verified on Instagram, the blue check will also carry over to Threads, so you won't need to get verified again.
Want to know if you're following the real account on Threads? Head over to their Instagram account where you'll find the correct link in their bio, below their username. This will allow you to double check that their account matches the profile you are following.
Is Threads safe to use?
While Threads have undeniably provided a safer avenue for social media users, one glaring aspect of the app, and other social media platforms in general, is its data usage.
At the moment, Threads doesn't have ads yet, but like Instagram that relies on user data for targeted ads, it won't take long before this app that gained millions of users in its first week out will welcome advertisers.
However, you’ll decide whether you'll allow your user data to be utilised by their third-party affiliates for their ad targeting efforts.
Are you 'Thready'?
In a messy social media world, the emergence of Threads is a breath of fresh air, promising a new avenue for us to engage, connect, and share our experiences with people without having second thoughts or holding back. And if you're looking to grow with Threads, there's no other time to do it than now!
So, why wait? Take the leap into the future of social media with Threads and let Melbourne's leading social media marketing agency, Elephant in the Boardroom, be your guiding light. Embrace the possibilities, engage your audience, and make your mark in this digital landscape.

The days of getting lost for words with our copywriting have finally come to an end - quite literally!
Even content curation will be simplified as a result of the upcoming AI revolution, thanks to the help of three new AI-powered tools: ChatGPT, Google’s Bards, and Bing Chatbot from Microsoft.
You may be wondering how can they help you in the content curation process. Will the content they create be up to industry standards? What are their limitations?
Let’s dive in and discover the answers as we go along!
What is ChatGPT?
I think ChatGPT is the name on everyone’s lips. ChatGPT, the AI-powered conversational tool, has everyone talking about its human-like ability to generate full-length content from a few user prompts. But what distinguishes ChatGPT from others?
The platform was rolled out in November 2022 and utilises natural language processing to answer a variety of queries, ranging from search queries to full content requests. Yes, even if you need to take time off work, ChatGPT can write you a letter similar to the one below. How clever?
Its creator, OpenAI, is also the creator of another syndicated AI platform, DALL-E, which generates images of various types based on a user’s query. It has a free version as well as a paid version called ChatGPT Plus.
Its primary advantage is that the content it generates is unique and not copied from another website, and it also responds quickly depending on the quality of your query. If you type in for example ‘explain the origins of the solar system in 5 paragraphs”, you will get a detailed explanation in 5 paragraphs.
Which is a massive help to all my fellow content curators out there. But, that doesn’t mean you need you should trust ChatGPT with all of your content, because Google and other search engines have warned creators about those who abuse AIs' power in their published content. Instead, use the platform as inspiration for your content, and add your own personality to your content.
Although, just like everything else, it does have some limitations. OpenAI has already admitted that it is incapable of distinguishing between fact and unverified information and that it can generate legitimate-sounding responses that are unrelated to the queries posed. It was also brought to everyone’s attention when ChatGPT provided seemingly-biased responses to some questions, particularly those involving political opinions.
Now onto the next.
What is Google’s “Bard”?
Space is a fascinating subject, but it may be too technical for a 9-year-old to understand the wonders of space, even with a simple Google search. Artificial intelligence can assist in connecting knowledge to even children.
With Google needing to keep up in the growing AI arms race in the digital space, they devised their own solution - meet Bard!
Bard, a promising AI-powered innovation set to be released soon, is set to change the way we think about search engines. It is powered by the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), which was trained on Internet-based datasets.
So, how will it affect the way we use search engines?
According to Google, the goal of Bard is to make search not only informative but also usable and conversational. A search prompt that appears to be too broad to answer will be answered with a deep understanding and insights thanks to its language models that collect information from enquiries made.
Google elaborated on this by providing the following:
"AI can be helpful in these moments, synthesizing insights for questions where there’s no one right answer. Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distil complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web."
Conversational AI is rapidly emerging. And, with Google’s impending release of Bard, marketers like us will undoubtedly benefit greatly, from gaining insightful ideas to forging meaningful conversations.
What is Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing chatbot?
Most of these AI tools are conversational if you haven’t noticed yet. Microsoft’s version is as well, but it is more than just bringing conversations to the innovation-meet Microsoft’s Bing chatbot.
Aside from gathering useful information for searches, Bing chatbot, or as Microsoft refers to it as 'your copilot for the web' aims to make search an interactive and collaborative experience.
It also reveals five new features to its standard search job, including improved search, complete and comprehensive answers, a new chat experience, a creative spark, and the new Microsoft Edge experience. All of these aspire to make searching enjoyable, not just intellectually satisfying. Doesn’t that sound promising?
Surprisingly, the Bing chatbot is also powered by OpenAI’s language learning model but Microsoft, which also invests in ChatGPT, claims that the Bing chatbot is more powerful than the former.
Consider the following example of a Bing search:
Want to make your life even simpler? Well, that is what the chatbot is functioned to do. As you can see from the example above the user inserted a query related to “places to go that are 3 hours away from London to celebrate a wedding anniversary”. It begins off with a congratulatory message and then proceeds to present the answers as if it were speaking directly to the searcher. Aside from complete responses, the human element of the response is evident throughout.
There are an endless amount of benefits that AI technology can bring to the table, and the future of AI’s widespread use in the digital marketing world is futuristic and exciting.
